Watching this car launching through the drag strip is astounding.

You might not know, but Jack Beckman became the fastest man in funny-car racing history… again. What do I mean again? Well, he was the first driver to break the sub-4 second mark and he just shattered his previous record, set on Friday. There’s a reason why he’s nicknamed “Fast Jack” (a very imaginative term of “endearment”).

He’s Jack, he’s fast and he went through the 1000-foot (304 meters) drag course in 3.912 seconds at 322.88 Mph (519 km/h). In fact, the whole race ended faster than a Porsche Carrera GT accelerates from 0 to 62 Mph (100 km/h).

“It’s just a wonderful feeling. When you are a kid, you dream of these moments of greatness. I knew when Jimmy Prock came on board this was possible, but I didn’t even think it could be this good. It’s just mind-numbing”, Beckman told to The Seattle Times.

Funny cars loosely resemble the production cars on which they are based on and the things come with supercharged, fuel-injected nitromethane-burning engines capable of producing an estimated 7,000 Hp figure.

In fact, every one of the eight cylinders produces around 750 horses – That means one cylinder generates slightly more power than a Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce or a Ferrari F12berlinetta.

Most of the powerplants used are 426 Chrysler Hemi engines and these brutes power the car through the quarter mile in 4.6 seconds at more than 330 Mph (531 Km/h). The performance figures are slightly lower than those of Top Fuel dragsters.
