The all-new Audi A4 is set to reach UK showrooms this week (as of September 10) where it will be priced from £25,900 OTR. Standard kit will be surprisingly generous for an Audi and include 17-inch alloys, Xenon lights, Audi Drive select and a seven-inch infotainment screen.

The base engine offered is the 1.4 TFSI, which is linked to a six-speed manual, has 150 PS, and promises to emit just 126 g/km CO2. If it’s diesel you want (and you probably do), then the cheapest diesel is a 2.0 TDI with equal power to the base petrol but even cleaner running, putting out just 99 g/km in its most efficient version.

The base 2.0 TDI ultra will set you back from £29,150, which climbs to £30,680 if you want the seven-speed S Tronic transmission.

If you want more powerful diesel engines, then Audi offers a pair of V6 TDI units too. These have either 218 or 272 PS and only the lower powered one can be had with just front-wheel drive; the more powerful 272 PS variant can only be had as Quattro and with the only eight-speed auto in the range.

In this mist expensive of setups, the A4 will set you back £40,350 before you tick any more options. Obviously, being an Audi, you really have a lot to choose from here, like “the virtual cockpit, Matrix LED headlights and numerous new driver assistance systems.”
