Hyundai has unveiled the i20 Active, a jacked-up ‘crossover’ version of its supermini ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show debut.

The Hyundai i20 Active will sit next to the regular five-door version and the sportier i20 Coupe, featuring a revised suspension which increases the ground clearance by 20mm. The company has also raised the seating position as well ‘to give superior visibility’.

Compared to the regular i20, the Active version wears a tougher-looking set of front and rear bumpers and cladding on its wheel arches in order to boost its crossover aura. Hyundai wants to rival similar cars like the VW CrossPolo with this new addition.

As for the engines, the new Hyundai i20 Active will be powered by the company’s new turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine in 99hp and 118hp versions.

The Korean firm says that the new i20 Active will go on sale in early 2016, with the public debut scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show.
