Mercedes-Benz has released full details and a fresh photo gallery with its facelifted G-Class family.

All Mercedes-Benz G-Class models now offer up to 16 percent more power and up to 17 percent lower fuel consumption, with the most important addition being the 422PS (416hp) 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine in the G 500. Other highlights include the exclusive AMG Edition 463 and the extreme G 500 4×4².

The new V8 biturbo in the Mercedes-Benz G 500 is developed by Mercedes-AMG and can also be found in the GT and C 63 in various states of tune.

In the G-Class, it produces 422PS (416hp) and 610Nm (450lb-ft) of torque. Compared with the previous 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 unit, the new engine produces 35PS more power and 80Nm more torque.

As maximum power and torque are delivered at lower engine speeds, the G 500 is quicker than before, as well as more economical. The new G 500 sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.9 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker) and has a combined NEDC consumption of 12.3 l/100 km (22.9 mpg UK or 19.1 mpg US). That’s a significant reduction from the previous model’s 14.9 l/100 km.

The other engines in the lineup have been upgraded as well. The G 350 d benefits from a hike in output from 211PS (208hp) to 245PS (242hp), with torque also up from 540 to 600Nm (442lb-ft). As a result, the G 350 d now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.8 seconds instead of the previous 9.1 seconds, while the combined NEDC consumption drops from 11.2 l/100 km (25.2 mpg UK or 21 mpg US) to 9.9 l/100 km (28.5 mpg UK or 23.7 mpg US).

AMG models have also received more power: the AMG G 63 now delivers 571PS (563hp) instead of 544PS (537hp), while the AMG G 65 now puts out 630PS (621hp), up from 612PS (604hp).

The facelifted G-Class family will be available from September 2015, except the G 500 4×4² which will arrive in showrooms from December 2015.
