Opel is showcasing the Vivaro passenger van’s personalization potential with a concept vehicle called Vivaro Surf which can accommodate five to six passengers along with their sports and fitness equipment.

Based on the Vivaro CrewCab van, the Vivaro Surf study features one particularly practical detail – a separate cargo area of 3.2 cubic meters (113 cu-ft) or 4.0 cubic meters (141 cu-ft) for the long wheelbase version. This makes it an ideal vehicle for transporting wet or dirty utensils after a trip to the beach or to the mountains.

The Opel Vivaro Surf Concept features a shiny copper-brown and white paint and foliation and rides on customized Irmscher alloy wheels. Another striking detail is the special surfboard bracket on the roof.

The interior, fitted by the specialists from Snoeks Automotive, benefits from blue lighting in the sidewalls and the roof liner. The floor of the cargo area is fitted with a newly developed rail system, while the entire width under the second row of seats is used for a storage box that can hold small utensils.

Other interior features include velour floor mats, a new automatic climate control system and an optional parking heater. The concept vehicle is also equipped with the latest version of Navi 50 IntelliLink infotainment system.

Power is supplied by a BiTurbo CDTI diesel engine which produces 140PS (138hp) and 340Nm (251lb-ft) of torque, allowing the Vivaro Surf Concept to reach a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). In the ecoFLEX version with Start/Stop it averages 6.1 l/100 km (46.3 mpg UK or 38.5 mpg US), corresponding to 160 g/km of CO2.

In order to offer passengers a comfortable ride, the Opel Vivaro Surf Concept has an air suspension on the rear axle, which also helps reduce the vehicle’s height by roughly 70mm (2.75in) to 1.90 meters (6.23 ft). This means the Vivaro Surf Concept can access most multi-storey car parks.

Opel says the Vivaro Surf Concept could soon go into production as a “Limited Edition” model.
