It seems a bit risky for Volvo to say that no people will die in any of their new cars after 2020. That’s a bold claim and it needs to be backed by a near-perfect plan so as to not backfire.

We do appreciate them attempting this and the extreme concern for people’s safety and well-being, which is a deeply Swedish way of looking at things; despite being under Chinese rule, Volvo really does seem to be carving its own unchanged path (and supplying Geely with know-how and tech on the side).

The video it released a few days ago really exudes confidence and it sounds like they’re dead serious about their claims.

Obviously, the manufacturer is will on its way to having the necessary tech framework to make it possible, and it is (probably) currently the world leader in active crash culling gadgets.

Volvo fully achieving its goal will automatically mean handing the controls over to a computer – it doesn’t state it outright, but how else could they guarantee you will not crash and burn if you are still in control?
