When you’ve just built a hot hatch with strong ground clearance and 300 PS under its bonnet, even Jerry Seinfeld would probably start scratching his head about it.

If this is meant to be a statement of the direction that SEAT is taking, trying to move up into the crossover and SUV segments, it still hardly makes any sense. What we know is that the Leon Cross Sport study is based on the production Leon SC Cupra version and that it kind of defeats its own purpose of being a more practical car.

I mean, what exactly is being “crossed over” here? It has just two doors so it’s hardly practical, and 300 PS, so it’s hardly economical. Take away the ground clearance you have yourself a regular hot hatch, but with it, that 4.9 second 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time becomes questionable.

Are you “sprinting” on tarmac or dirt? Who’s buying this car? Also, if you’re buying something like this just so that you could worry less when driving over poor road surfaces…well, those can damage your car in multiple ways, regardless of your ground clearance.

Maybe we’re just asking too many questions instead of just saying that it would probably be loads of fun to drive, and that the added ground clearance would definitely give you extra confidence regardless of where you are and how the weather is treating you.

One thing this car would definitely be awesome at, would be plowing through a snow-filled rally course at high speed, so that its all-wheel drive system could earn its money.
