The new M4 GTS is the latest in a long line of track-friendly BMW models such as the 1995 M3 GT, 2003 M3 CLS and 2010 M3 GTS.

It might not be the prettiest car to look at, especially with those near-tacky acid orange accents, but BMW has infused the GTS version of the M4 with motor sport genes that include a stripped out, two-seater interior with the no-cost option of a roll cage and improved aerodynamics through the use of wings and spoilers.

One of the biggest highlights of the car is the addition of a new water injection system on the 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six, which lowers the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber allowing a higher boost pressure for better performance.

You will have to fill it up with water every once in a while, but that’s a small inconvenience for the 60hp and 50Nm boost over the regular M4 at 493hp (500PS) at 6,250 rpm and 442 lb-ft (600Nm) of peak torque between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm respectively.

Like so many other new track-focused models these days, the GTS is available exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that gets it to 60mph in 3.7 seconds or to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, and on to a top speed of 190mph or 305km/h. BMW says it’s the quickest production car it has ever made, running the Nürburgring track nearly 30 seconds faster than the standard M4 at 7 minutes and 28 seconds.

Only 700 will be made, but at least this time, this special Bimmer will be sold in the States.
