It’s not all good news for those who have bought an electric vehicle, even in an EV friendly state like California. It may have one of the broadest charging infrastructures in the world, yet it seems it’s still not enough and it’s making people mean to one another.

Apparently, according to the NY Times, which quotes Jamie Hull, the driver of an electric Fiat 500e. She explains “there’s an entire black market for trading spots,” but we’re not really sure what that means.

People are said to have started “unplugging one another’s cars, trading insults… and creating side deals to trade spots in corporate parking lots,” as per the source.

The black market side of things here refers to the unofficial charging points that are basically outside outlets that have been made available for public charging either by individuals or companies not connected to the charging infrastructure.

We assume they give preferential treatment to some people whom they know or have a deal with to the detriment of those not in the know.
