While Lexus would have you believe that their LS and LX flagships are equally luxurious and will take you places just as efficiently albeit a little bit differently, the saloon definitely holds the upper hand.

Believe it or not, the most expensive gasoline-powered car in Lexus’ portfolio at the moment is the LX luxury SUV, which costs upwards of $88,880 in the US. It may not be the prettiest thing in the world, but it packed with helpful tech and offers really high comfort levels.

The LS on the other hand has a starting price of $72,520 as long as you go for the 4.6 liter V8 model and not the 438 HP Hybrid version, which would set you back $120,440.

So even if Lexus would have us believe that the luxurious LX SUV can go off road and climb as fast as the LS saloon can drive around a couple of twisty corners, the reality is that the LS is Lexus’ true, blue pride and joy. And no, there’s no way that LX would have reached the resort as fast as the LS, simply by going off road and cutting some corners.

To be fair, that’s a bit beside the point, since what Lexus is actually doing here is promoting their two most expensive models together so it would seem that they’re at the top of the luxury game, regardless of segment. The LS can certainly win a lot of people over, as it’s proven to be a fairly successful car over the years. The LX however still has a long way to go.
