Mercedes-Benz Citan Gets Updated Euro 6 Engines, Optional 6-Speed DCT

Mercedes-Benz has announced technical and equipment updates for its Citan line of light commercial vehicles.

Since June, all Mercedes-Benz Citan vehicles registered as passenger cars comply as standard with the Euro 6 emissions regulation. As of the same date, customers buying a Citan registered as a commercial vehicle can also specify Euro 6 compliance as an option, more than a year before this becomes a legal obligation.

The upgrade to Euro 6 for the diesel units shas been achieved through “internal engine measures” and a storage-type NOx catalytic converter, which means no complex SCR technology is necessary – drivers will no longer have to worry about using the extra service fluid AdBlue.

The 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine continues to be available in three output versions: 75PS (74hp), 90PS (89hp) and 110PS (108hp). However, the upgrade to Euro 6 has resulted in increased maximum torque by 20Nm (15lb-ft) for each diesel engine, with figures ranging between 200Nm (148lb-ft) and 260 Nm (192lb-ft).

Euro 6-compliant Citan vehicles are available with the BlueEfficiency package, which lowers fuel consumption for the diesel variants to just 4.3 l/100 km (65.7 mpg UK or 54.7 mpg US).

There’s good news for petrol-powered Citans as well, with the Citan 112 powered by the 114PS (112hp) 1.2-liter unit benefitting from increased torque in kickdown mode: 205Nm (151lb-ft), up from 175Nm (129lb-ft) before. This extra torque is provided in the second, third and fourth gear for a maximum of 20 seconds. The Citan 112 also gets an optional 6G-DCT dual clutch transmission.

The entire Citan range is available with new optional extras ranging from a double passenger seat and a factory-fitted navigation system to a skylight and reversing camera. Finally, the Citan crewbus has been renamed the Citan Tourer in order to bring the nomenclature for the Citan into line with the new Vito.
