Don’t get put off by the name; it just means electric crossover and it represents Mitsubishi’s vision for their upcoming electric SUV.

Under the wide-shouldered body, Mitsubishi says there is an electric powertrain paired with all-wheel drive, a next-gen battery pack and a range of up to 248 miles on a full charge. And because this is the future we are talking about, the eX Concept also features an array of active safety systems and connected car systems.

Also promising are the news that Mitsubishi’s latest concept essentially previews their new design language, with design details such as the ‘floating roof’ or the slimmer headlights and the cleaner cockpit. We expect to see Mitsubishi’s future models to use the same front-end treatment, which the brand calls ‘Dynamic Shield’. It looks good.

As for market positioning, the production version of the Mitsubishi eX Concept, which is expected around 2020, will take its place under the Qashqai-rivalling ASX. It’s no secret that Mitsubishi will focus on SUVs from now on, a strategy that killed eventually our beloved Evolution.

Let’s hope that Mitsubishi will make us an electric Dakar warrior then.
