While the all-new Chevrolet Volt won’t be available across the States until late next spring as a 2017 model, the automaker has already released a series of attack ads targeting the Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf.

Debuting this fall on the Internet and later on TV, the ads are critical of two models that Chevrolet views as rivals for its new Volt: the Nissan Leaf and the Toyota Prius (not the all-new model though).

The first commercial pokes fun at the Nissan Leaf’s range anxiety problem, something Volt owners will not experience thanks to its range extender petrol engine.

The ad shows several groups of people in an elevator that gets stuck between floors because of a power outage. In a not so subtle way, the commercial compares the feeling of helplessness one gets from being stuck in an elevator with the so-called range anxiety experienced by users of electric vehicles.

The second ad compares the nickel metal hydride battery technology in the Toyota Prius to that of late 1990s consumer electronics. By comparison, the Volt uses more advanced lithium ion batteries.

Head down to watch both commercials.
