If you’re going to teach somebody how to overtake properly on a race track, using a Porsche 911 GT3 and a BMW M4 as props is certainly a good idea.

The reason why this is such a good match-up is because the GT3 is quicker, more powerful and lighter than the M4 and will allow you to demonstrate passing techniques without having to go through too much trouble. On top of that, both cars are rear-wheel driven which makes it a lot easier for you to prevent understeer when you’ve got the cars side by side.

Granted, the driver of the BMW M4 wasn’t exactly giving it all he had, as the purpose of this video is simply to create awareness and teach people about what it takes to complete a perfect pass. So there was no reason for the two cars to be engaged in a life and death battle, obviously.

It’s best if we don’t get into everything Pobst is trying to pass along to his audience, because it sounds a lot better coming from him – but we will tell you that he covers pretty much all scenarios such as drafting behind your opponent, using your power output, your tires, launching on the inside and the outside of a corner and so on.

He even talks about how bravery can play a factor in getting you by your rivals on the track, though that’s generally not the best way to overtake somebody. Just ask Kimi Raikkonen.

Mentioning brake zones is also a very good thing because better brakes give you confidence to approach a corner at higher speeds, which in some cases won’t help you get on the throttle sooner, but it might not even matter since you’d have already passed your opponent.
