The KBB review of the new Range Rover Sport TD6 says that it really is the best engine choice for the vehicle.

This is nothing new to European buyers of Range Rovers, and it shouldn’t really surprise anybody in the US that these latest oil burners are that good…

As we all know, diesels’ low range grunt advantage will always make them a more favorable choice for a heavy and bulky SUV. The TD6 reaches its peak torque of 440 lb-ft at 1,750 rpm; the gas V6 makes 332 lb-ft at exactly twice the number of rotations.

It’s around 30 percent more economical too and the only problem it really faces is just public perception, which will undoubtedly have been negatively affected recently.

The Range Rover Sport TD6 is probably the pick of the range, though, and if you do a lot of miles, then its claimed 32 percent better economy (than that of the regular V6) will see you recover its $1,500 price premium after some 30,000 miles of driving.
