The first reviews of the new Chevrolet Camaro are landing, giving us the first impressions on Chevrolet’s latest muscle car.

Automobile magazine was one of the first to drop their video review, where the new Camaro SS gets tested on track to see just how much better the new car is. One of the biggest weaknesses of the previous generation was the big weight, partly because that car was based on the Holden platform.

With the new Camaro switching over to GM’s Alpha platform, also used by the Cadillac ATS, Chevrolet was able to shed up to 167kg (368 pounds) off its weight, with the savings in the V8 SS model being 101kg (223 pounds) less than its predecessor.

The ever-so-wonderful 6.2-litre V8 makes 455 loud horses, allowing the Camaro to reach 60mph from a standstill in 4.3 seconds when paired with the six-speed manual and 4.0 seconds dead when equipped with the new eight-speed auto.

There is no doubt that Chevrolet was able to build a much better Camaro thanks to the new platform and the numbers look good as the car itself. The only thing remaining now is to address the Mustang in the room. Er, I mean the elephant.
