Scoop: Audi’s Next-Gen Hardcore TT RS Could Pack Over 400HP

Audi has been testing mules for its ultra TT with the RS badge for ages now, but this time, our spies caught up with a regular prototype.

Previously seen hidden under TT S body wear, this tester gets the oval-shaped twin exhausts that are a staple of the RS series, while other telltale signs that there’s something different about this coupe include the different rear diffuser, a new front spoiler, the honeycomb grille and the larger, wave-patterned and drilled brake discs.

By the time it reaches production next year with a possible introduction date set for the Geneva Motor Show in March, it will get satin silver mirror caps, bespoke rims and a different front bumper treatment, together with a series of interior upgrades.

Some sources from Germany insist that the new TT RS will get a cranked up version of the latest RS3 Sportback’s 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five packing over 370 in regular trim and 400 or more in Plus guise, while others say that Audi could go for its newly-developed 2.0-liter turbo four previewed on the 414hp (420PS) 2014 TT Quattro Sport Concept and which is being readied for the VW Golf R400.

Another question that remains unanswered is whether Audi will offer a traditional manual gearbox next to its S tronic dual-clutch transmission, as a recent report said that company officials have decided against it. What we do know for sure is that the RS will come with Audi’s permanent quattro all-wheel drive fitted as standard.
