We already are aware of the Spanish car maker’s intention to launch a line-up of small SUVs, but it seems that Seat is brewing something more…substantial.

Apparently, the Volkswagen-owned marque is working on a 7-seater behemoth to challenge the D segment market. Speaking to Autocar at the Frankfurt auto show, Jürgen Stackmann – the recently demised, former Seat boss – stated that “a D-segment SUV has potential”.

We don’t doubt that it has, given the steady, fast-pacing rise in crossovers and SUVs demand in the last few years, but if this idea comes to fruition, then Seat will have to tackle some serious sibling rivalry within the Volkswagen Group. As you might recall, we reported that Skoda intends to launch a 7-seater SUV of its own, called the Snowman.

Yes, the two vehicles could share the same platform (just to make things even more intense between the two car makers), but unlike Skoda’s upcoming automobile, the large Seat crossover hasn’t been approved, as it’s still only under consideration, according to the British magazine. So, if it will ever make it into production, then the automobile will most likely be premiered after Skoda launches the Snowman, and after Seat launches its compact and the subcompact SUVs.
