Skoda Octavia vRS Gets AWD Option & Sat-Nav As Standard In The UK

Skoda’s fastest ever Octavia is on its way to becoming an even more attractive car to UK buyers, with the introduction of a new 4×4 option as well as the addition of the Amundsen sat-nav as standard.

The UK is a pretty big market for the Octavia vRS, with 30,000 units sold since the model was first introduced in 2001. The updated vRS range will hit showrooms later this year, following the lead of the new vRS 230, literally the fastest production Octavia ever and not just generation-wise.

As mentioned before, the new range will have a 4×4 option, fitted with a six-speed DSG transmission as standard, as well as the sat-nav system which plenty of people will appreciate and almost everyone will find useful at one point or another.

Prices for the vRS 4×4 start from £27,315 OTR (£28,515 OTR for the Estate) and involve just the 2.0 TDI versions. The Octavia’s AWD system can constantly monitor traction at each wheel and direct power to whichever axle requires it most. What this means is that you should experience a smooth and strong acceleration regardless of road conditions – but that’s kind of in an ideal world sort of thing.

Still, Octavia vRS 4×4 models can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.6 seconds and are very rewarding when overtaking thanks to their flexible mid-range and impressive torque output of 380 Nm (280 lb-ft). All in all, it’s 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) more than what you get in the 2.0 TSI model.

Starting on November 1st, you’ll be able to buy into the vRS range for £24,230 OTR, which will get you a 5-door 2.0 TSI 220 PS model. Meanwhile, the entry-level vRS Estate will set you back £25,430 OTR – understandable since we’re talking about a more practical car.

The Amundsen sat-nav system which is now standard across the range, used to be a £755 optional extra, where now it’s just a £400 premium added to the car’s initial price tag. Having access to a capacitive touchscreen display and SD card slot while saving £355 is a pretty sweet deal.

Other vRS features include the 18″ Gemini anthracite alloys, bi-xenon headlights, sports suspension and a dual-zone climate control system with humidity sensor.
