We approached a BMW insider and asked if an M2 Cabriolet was on the table. Our source would neither confirm nor deny that a decision has been made, but lead us to believe that it’s still under consideration.

When BMW pulled the wraps off the M2 Coupe a few weeks back, the carmaker’s fans went wild, as the performance model evoked memories of the original M3 E30.

If the German firm gives the green light for a Convertible edition, then it will get the same upgrades as the M2 Coupe, sans, of course, the rag top.

So, besides the chassis and styling improvements it will get the coupe’s 3.0-liter straight-six turbo engine under its hood, producing 370PS (365hp) at 6,500rpm and 465Nm (343 lb-ft) of torque. The hardtop model comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M DCT transmission, reaching the 100km/h (62mph) mark in 4.5 and 4.3 seconds respectively.
