Since McLaren plans to keep expanding the Sports Series range, would it be possible for them to do something outlandish such as a 4-Seater?

Before you hurry up and dismiss that notion, keep in mind that during an interview with Drive, McLaren design director Frank Stephenson talked about a new Sports Series model meant to attract “a different sort of buyer”, while admitting that even a Shooting Brake could be “an interesting way to go because that segment needs space.”

Stephenson went on to say that the new McLaren will be a “different kind of car for the client to aspire to. So the 570S will attract one type of client and the 570-‘Blank’ will attract a different sort of buyer. You don’t want those overlapping, definitely.”

So what could this new and “different” McLaren be? A Shooting Brake would undoubtedly be a great surprise for supercar fans, but they would probably settle for any type of 4-seater – perhaps an Aston Martin Rapide sort of thing? And no, other hardcore versions and Spider versions wouldn’t count here since those are just variations of the same body style, whereas here we’re talking about a new body style.

Right now, the segment is itching for another different type of supercar, since something like the Ferrari FF is pretty much one of a kind – though let’s not forget the Nissan GT-R, who wowed people not just with its performance and retail price when it came out, but also with its rear seats.

Also, should this “different kind of 570S” retain a two-seat configuration, it would sort of defeat the purpose of building a more practical body style, wouldn’t it?
