The new 2017 Lincoln MKZ sedan may have psyched its fans with an AWD 400HP (406PS) and 400lb-ft (542Nm)  3-liter GTDI V6 twin-turbo engine, but the company doesn’t seem eager to turn its attention to a sports car.

Thanks to the powerhouse under its hood, the MKZ has become the most powerful Lincoln ever built. Even so, the model won’t quench anyone’s thirst for driver/performance-oriented, luxurious automobiles, since it comes either in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Granted, the latter might just do the trick, but if you Lincoln-lovers expected a rear-wheel drive offering to really put you in the “driving mood”, then we’re afraid you’re out of luck.

Speaking to Autonews, Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln said that the company has to concentrate its resources on something else, stating:

“We’ve said we need to cover the core segments first. Luxury coupes and sports cars are not the first place we need to go.”

Furthermore, the news site reports that in the near term, Lincoln will be more concentrated with updating its looks and its line-up, as the car manufacturer said it will add two nameplates that momentarily are confidential, because according to Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra “nothing is set in stone”.

So, we’re curious to see what does Lincoln come up with.
