Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers has downplayed the possibility of a hypercar with the 3-pointed star logos on its body.

The company’s official spoke to Autoblog on the sidelines of the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, about a Mercedes rival for the LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, saying that there is no capacity to produce one.

Unfortunately, if we find we should do something like that, there’s no capacity – there’s no engineering capacity to do that – in the near future. So there’s no chance for us.”

Moers added that an exotic model doesn’t belong in the Mercedes lineup, financially speaking either, and that the brand has other priorities more important than a hypercar, like adding a new version of the GT and focusing on the next-gen E-Class.

Mercedes-Benz recently increased production capacity of the V12 engines in order to meet strong demand. In order to achieve this, the German brand will start assembling the unit at a new location, in Mannheim, from February.

Moving production of the 6.0-liter powertrain will free the assembly capacity at the Affalterbach facility, where the employees in charge of the 12-cylinder engines will start to assemble the high-performance V8s. The 6.0-liter turbo unit is used in models like the G65 AMG, the S65 AMG sedan, coupe and cabri,  and in the facelifted SL65 AMG.
