The latest news out of Russelsheim has Opel’s flagship Insignia being equipped with their latest generation Infotainment system.

Insignia owners will now be able to enjoy the new IntelliLink system with smartphone integration, as well as Opel OnStar and Apple CarPlay. The latest generation Navi 900 IntelliLink is compatible with the Apple iPhone 5 (or higher), with additional apps becoming easy to control either via Siri eyes free voice command, or directly from the 8″ touchscreen.

The Navi 900 IntelliLink is standard on the Sport and Innovation trim levels, while Edition and Selection trim levels get it as €1,200 optional extra.

Furthermore, the Insignia now comes with Opel OnStar as standard upwards from the Edition trim level. The integrated 4G/LTE architecture will basically turn your car into a powerful Wi-Fi Hotspot, while the service assistant functions will make sure that somebody is always watching over you via Automatic Crash Response.

Other OnStar features include Stolen Vehicle, Roadside Assistance and Vehicle Diagnostics.

Peter Christian Kuspert, Opel VP of Sales, said that the German manufacturer is “in an exemplary position when it comes to vehicle connectivity. This is just as true for the Insignia as it is for the new Astra or the IntelliLink pioneer, the ADAM. Our flagship now comes with Opel OnStar and the ultra-modern Navi 900 IntelliLink system. This will enable us to integrate the smartphone quickly and straightforwardly via Apple CarPlay and shortly via Android Auto. This is mobile connectivity that makes sense and is fun.”

With this update, Opel should feel more confident in the Insignia’s chances against the very modern all-new Ford Mondeo and it’s SYNC 2 system.
