After a difficult weekend, Lotus’ Romain Grosjean picked himself up to score points in Brazil despite racing with a heavy heart.

Grosjean finished P9 at Interlagos, though was promoted to P8 thanks to Felipe Massa’s right rear tire. This also marked Grosjean’s penultimate race with Lotus before his departure to Haas Racing.

The French driver admitted to being thrown off his game because of what happened in Paris on Friday, saying “Certainly not the easiest one of the season very much because of what happened in France. It is all in our hearts.”

Grosjean’s Lotus career has been a very exciting one, establishing him as one of the fastest and most consistent drivers on the grid. Surprisingly enough, he said that a return to Lotus one day isn’t out of the question.

“Abu Dhabi will be last race with Lotus,” he said. “Who knows I may come back, never say never, but we’ll see. It is going to be a difficult one after the checkered flag but it will be special.”

Although talking about returning to your old team right when you’re on the cusp of joining a new one wasn’t the most diplomatic of things, Grosjean was possibly saying it out of the kindness of his heart, considering how Lotus is poised to become Renault next year.

Currently, Grosjean is having a much better year than he did in 2014, when Lotus was arguably the least fortunate team in all of Formula 1. However, in both 2012 and 2013, he was one of the most successful young drivers, scoring 96 and 132 points respectively.
