Toyota Brings Rugged TRD Pro Models To LA

When Toyota customers look for more special everyday models, perhaps to make them forget that most of their friends drive identical cars, they can always turn towards TRD.

TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development and these special edition cars are good enough to win over plenty of people who want a lot more from their off-road machines than just basic all-wheel drive functions. The TRD Pro Series vehicles currently include the 4Runner, the Tacoma and the mighty Tundra, which looks damn near indestructible – it probably is.

But before we go sending it out to fight villains in space, let’s take a look at what makes the Tundra TRD Pro so special, shall we?

For starters it’s got a all-black 18″ wheels wrapped in Michelin ORP tires, dual tailpipes and a 2-inch lift on the front to go with softer springs. It may not be as wicked as a F-150 Raptor, but if the zombie apocalypse ever happens, this particular Tundra should be at the top of your “shopping” list.

Another TRD Pro model worth mentioning is the 4Runner, which our own Zac Estrada got to drive a few months back. As it turns out, it doesn’t have the most exceptional interior, but it does stand out in a very butch sort of way and it’s an exceptionally capable off-road conquistador.

Last but not least, Toyota also brought their SEMA Edition Highlander TRD to Los Angeles, wearing its typical Silver Pearl paint job and rocking that sporty body kit – further enhanced by the lowered suspension. Is this arguably Toyota’s best-looking SUV? Some people certainly think so.

All in all, TRD might not mean to Toyota what SRT means for Dodge, but it still makes for a way above average looking rough terrain machine.
