Just over two years ago, Porsche set a new record lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife for a globally homologated production car, with an incredible time of 6:57.

Neither McLaren or Ferrari have released their lap times around the ‘Ring, presumably because they were unable to topple the 918’s time.

One of the interesting and little-known facts about the 918 Spyder driven by Marc Lieb during the record run is that its body was made of exposed carbon fibre and had a lightweight wrap installed to save weight over a traditionally painted surface. Now, the twin of that record-setting 918 Spyder has hit the market courtesy of CNC Motors of California.

As with the record car, this example was ordered from the factory with an exposed carbon fibre body and in order to protect the delicate finish, a matte black wrap was then installed on top. The absence of paint means the car weighs 14 pounds less than a normal, painted 918 Spyder. Beyond its lightweight finish, it has also been installed with the optional Weissach weight-saving and aerodynamics package including lightweight magnesium wheels and racing seats.

Inside, this 918 Spyder has a very simple and conservative finish to match the stealthy exterior. As such, it includes black fabrics as well as bright green 918 Spyder logos on the headrests and green piping.

As a 2015 model, it has covered 1856 miles and has an asking price of $1,999,918, well over double the 918’s retail price in the United States.
