FIA Finalises 2016 Formula One Calendar

The 2016 Formula One calendar has just been signed off by the FIA and with 21 races on the cards, next year is set to be the longest F1 season ever.

Perhaps the most exciting addition to the 2016 F1 season is the inclusion of a street race in Baku, Azerbaijan. Scheduled for the weekend of June 19th, it will clash with the 24 Hours of Le Mans meaning current F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg who also competed and won Le Mans this year, won’t be able to defend his title with the Porsche LMP1 team.

Next year will also see the return of the German Grand Prix, this time at the Hockenheimring on July 31.

While the calendar may have been finalized, there is still some uncertainty about whether or not the United States Grand Prix will go ahead at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. At this stage, it has been scheduled for October 23, but due to funding issues, has yet to sign a contract with either Bernie Ecclestone or the national sporting authority.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Austin race, the Mexican Grand Prix has been brought forward a week over initial plans to October 30.
