The headline of the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R is certainly its engine which just so happens to be the most power-dense naturally-aspirated V8 ever produced by Ford.

Given the high demand for the two hardcore Mustang variants, it’s inevitable that some enthusiasts will miss out. Thankfully for them, Ford Performance Parts has the answer.

The company has just added the 5.2-litre aluminium block and cylinder heads from the GT350 to its online catalog. While the engine is not being offered as a complete package (crate engine), these parts do provide the building blocks for the V8 engine appropriately dubbed ‘Voodoo’.

One of the key highlights of the GT350’s engine is its use of a flat-plane crankshaft. While Ford Performance Parts isn’t currently offering that crank for individual sale, the forged crankshaft found in the Mustang Boss 302 is available and bolts straight onto the 5.2-litre block which itself costs $3000. Meanwhile, the 5.2-litre’s cylinder heads cost $2495 each but don’t come fitted with the lash adjusters, rocker arms nor the camshafts.

In the coming months, Ford is expected to list further GT350 engine components online for individual sale potentially allowing enthusiasts the opportunity to create their very own 5.2-litre V8 albeit without a flat-plane crank.

In standard guise, the engine delivers an impressive 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to outperform the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 on track as well as a host of more expensive European sports cars, including the Porsche 911 GT3.
