Home to the most powerful engines in the General Motors portfolio, the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky plays a very important role for the automaker. As such, that company has just announced that it will be investing $44 million into the plant to increase its production capacity.

The expansion of the Performance Build Center comes on the back of high demand for the C7-generation Corvette Z06. At this stage, almost one third of Corvette models being produced are the range-topping Z06 variant and the investments will lead to the creation of 36 new jobs across the Performance Build Center.

“Coupled with the investment, for $439 million for a new paint shop and facility upgrades announced in May, GM has committed $483 million to Bowling Green this year alone,” said plant manager Kai Spande. “These significant investments indicate the company’s confidence in Bowling Green, the Performance Build Center and our skilled workforce.”

GM’s Performance Build Center was originally located in Michigan and since being opened, has been responsible for producing engines for the likes of the C6 Corvette ZR1, Cadillac STS-V and the massive 7.0-litre V8 of the Camaro Z/28. After being relocated to Bowling Green last year, it has only produced the supercharged 6.2-litre V8 of the latest Z06.
