Mazda announced today that global production for new-generation vehicles featuring SKYACTIV technology and KODO-Soul of Motion design has surpassed three million units.

The real number actually stands at almost 3,050,000 units as of the end of November 2015, a number that arrived approximately four years after Mazda started producing the CX-5 at their Hiroshima Plant in November 2011.

Currently, the Mazda’s new-gen lineup includes the CX-5, the 3rd-gen Mazda6 (Atenza in Japan), 3rd-gen Mazda3 (Axela), 4th-gen Mazda2 (Demio), MX-5 (Roadster) and CX-5 crossover. These models are also being produced in Thailand, China and Mexico, aside from their Japanese plants at Hiroshima and Hofu.

As for the all-new CX-9, it was unveiled recently at the LA Auto Show in November, and is tailored specifically for the North American market – which Mazda expects to account for 80% of annual global sales of 50,000 units per year. When the CX-9 goes on sale in spring 2016, it will further strengthen the new-generation lineup.

Mazda President & CEO Masamichi Kogai said that “the entire Mazda Group is united by single-minded desire to deliver our customers driving pleasure. That’s why we take on so many challenges. Those efforts have paid off, and we have been able to exceed the three million-unit mark because our new-generation models have proven so popular with customers all over the world. We are grateful to each and every customer who chose one of our cars. Moving forward, Mazda continues to work hard to brighten people’s lives through car ownership and aim to become a ‘one-and-only’ brand that builds a special emotional bond with customers.”

Aside from the redesigned engines and the design themes, Mazda is also looking to give customers the ideal driving position, while keeping them safe through the use of the i-ACTIVSENSE advanced safety technologies. Of course, what’s safety without connectivity nowadays? The Japanese manufacturer is also offering the Mazda Connect (MZD Connect) system which basically makes it easier for you to use certain smartphone features while behind the wheel, without taking your eyes off the road in order to look at a 5″ display.
