Nearly 10,000 Polaris Slingshots Recalled Over Faulty Headlights

With its eye-catching design, three-wheeled design, poky little 2.4-litre Ecotec engine and affordable price tag, the Polaris Slingshot has proven quite popular in the United States. For all the driving thrills it provides, it is just like any other car in the world in that it isn’t immune to recalls.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Polaris is recalling 9182 examples of the Slingshot due to issues with the headlights. Cars affected were produced between April 21, 2014 and October 22, 2015 with the Slingshot SL and SL variants also being called back by the firm.

The NHTSA recently discovered that the headlight relay can fail meaning the headlights can shut off completely, inevitably increasing the risk of a crash when Slingshots are being driven at night.

To resolve the issue, dealerships will remove the whole relay and replace it with a circuit that consists of two headlight relays, free of charge.

This isn’t the first time the Polaris Slingshot has been recalled as back in January, a number were recalled and a stop-sale order issued after potential steering problems.
