Next Honda Civic Si Could Receive 230hp Detuned Type R Engine

The latest Honda Civic Si may have only hit the US market late last year but already, talk about the next-gen model is already rife with suggestions it will be powered by a detuned version of the latest Civic Type R’s engine.

A member at the CivicX forum claims that the new Civic Si will arrive on the market as a 2017 model year and either be launched late next year or in early 2017. When the new Civic Si is launched, its Type R-derived 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine would be restricted to around 220-230 hp.

Just like the latest Civic Type R, the new Civic Si will be available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels. It is claimed that a number of other components from the Type R will be used by the 2017 Si but it isn’t clear just yet what those parts could be.

It seems as though the new Civic Si will launch before the new Type R based around the recently-released latest-generation Civic available in sedan, coupe and hatchback body styles. While the current, Euro-market Type R delivers a class-leading 306 hp, it isn’t yet known if the Japanese automaker intends on lifting power of its successor but there’s a good chance it will do so.
