Rumors of an Apple car have heated up after it was revealed that the technology company had registered three very revealing domain names.
In December 2015, Apple registered Apple.car, Apple.cars and Apple.auto. The company is already involved in the automotive industry with its CarPlay infotainment system so there's a chance those domain names could simply be related to a dedicated website for CarPlay. However, it seems very unlikely Apple.auto would have anything to do with CarPlay given its similarity to Android Auto.
Talk about an all-electric Apple car is nothing new with many sources claiming such a vehicle could hit the market in 2019 or 2020. It is claimed that it's been dubbed 'Project Titan' and apparently, Apple has poached experienced engineers from the likes of Tesla, General Motors, Samsung and Ford for the secretive project.
As recently as September 2015, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple intended on having 1,800 employees working on the project. Perhaps one of the key indications that an Apple car is in the works is that late last year, Apple requested permission from the state of California to test an autonomous car.
