When online applications to purchase the all-new Ford GT open soon, the American marque is set to implement a rigorous vetting process to ensure only the most fanatical enthusiast have the chance of owning one.

Applications will open sometime this month and have been designed to reward longtime Ford customers and existing GT owners. In the application will be a number of questions asking how often a customer will drive their 2017 GT, how many Ford models they’ve owned in the past and how active they are on social media.

Additionally, applicants will be required to sign a legal document confirming that they won’t sell the vehicle for an undisclosed time. This will wean out any customers looking to flip their cars for a profit, as happened with the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.

During an interview with The Detroit News, Ford’s product chief Raj Nair said “There’s a loyal following to the car. We want to prioritize people who are going to care about the car, keep the car and drive the car.”

All prospective buyers will be required to fill out the online application meaning even celebrities like Jay Leno won’t receive special treatment.

All of the hype around the car comes despite the fact that many of its key details remain unknown. At this stage, it’s been confirmed the third-generation GT will utilise a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering upwards of 600 hp, utilise carbon fiber heavily in its construction and in an industry first, be installed with a Gorilla Glass windshield.
