Thanks to a cryptic teaser image posted on Twitter, we know that the relaunched Alpine brand will indeed unveil its brand new sports car on February 16, ahead of a likely public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. This image comes a month after a short video teaser of the car was released

The teaser image depicts the peak of a snow-covered mountain overlaid with ‘16.02.16’, the vehicle’s debut date. While the picture doesn’t actually show the new sports car, all reports point towards it being dubbed the A120 and looking very similar to last year’s Alpine Celebration Concept.

Apparently, the sports car will come standard with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine available in a range of guises. It’s suggested that this powertrain will be based on the 1.6-liter unit of the Renault Clio RS and in base spec, deliver around 250 hp. For customers looking for more performance, a 300 hp variant is on the cards. Both models will have rear-wheel drive as standard as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

To ensure the model weighs as little as possible, aluminum has been used throughout its construction resulting in a 1,100 kg kerb (2,425 lbs) weight.

With the Alfa Romeo 4C and Porsche Cayman in its sights, the sports car market is about to get even more exciting.
