Even though it was Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher who won the 2004 Bahrain Grand Prix, a young Fernando Alonso found himself in a direct battle against Mark Webber on that very same day.

Back then, Alonso was racing for Renault, while Webber was a young driver for Jaguar-Cosworth, which automatically had him at a disadvantage over the Spaniard, seen as how Jaguar wasn’t even a middle-of-the-pack team and Renault was the third-best constructor that year.

In fact, 2004 was the year before Renault broke out and won the title, edging McLaren Mercedes by 9 points as Alonso also won the drivers’ title.

But just so we don’t veer too far off-topic, looking at this clip we can see a very frustrated driver in Fernando Alonso, who was desperately trying to get by the slower Webber, especially in the final corners leading up to the pit straight.

Watching the video all the way to the end will reveal what it took for Alonso to finally have his way and get past the Jaguar driver.
