Bentley is reportedly planning to offer a production version of the 2014 Grand Convertible concept in really limited numbers.

Bentley had teased in 2014 that they would produce a big convertible based on the Mulsanne flagship, a favorite project of then-CEO Wolgang Durheimer who shortly after left the company for Audi’s R&D.

Durheimer’s successor Wolfang Schreiber didn’t followed his footsteps though, cancelling the project altogether.

Fast forward to today where Durheimer is back at the wheel of both Bentley and Bugatti and the whole Mulsanne Convertible project looks like it’s going to be made after all. Car&Driver reports that although it’s too late for the model to be prepped for a full-series production run, Durheimer said that they are currently looking into the possibility of having the Mulliner division built a very small number of the Mulsanne-based convertibles.

“Such a model would be built in [a batch of] 20 units and sold to absolute connoisseurs at a very high price,” he says. The car could hit the market up until 2018 with a price tag of around £1 million (around $1.5 million).

Bentley could revive the Azure nameplate for the new model which, if it becomes a reality, would occupy the very same spot in the market with the soon-to-be-dead Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.
