If you’re wondering why you’ve never heard about this color, it’s probably because ‘Lava Red’ only happens to be available through BMW‘s Abu Dhabi dealership – or at least that’s what they claim. Earlier this year, BMW itself had released a similar color for the i8 called “Proton Red” for a special limited edition.

The BMW i8 is a lot of things, all rolled into one. It’s the world’s best-selling hybrid sports car and a true icon of mobility, as long as you don’t forget to mix efficiency with a little bit of fun behind the wheel.

The “fun”, so to speak, comes from its 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder petrol engine which combined with an electric motor blast the i8 towards 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds – good enough to help it stand up to the M4.

Performance aside, this unique i8 also features AC Schnitzer carbon fiber aero mods, such as the fixed rear wing, the side skirts and the front spoiler elements. It’s a similar setup to what we previous saw on another i8 last month – same exact 21″ wheels too, with the 5-spoke design.

While this is by no means the only customized i8 we’ve seen in Abu Dhabi, the bespoke color does help it stand out when compared to other, mostly white models. It might even be on the same level as this Lime Green model in terms of attracting attention, but we’ll let you be the judge of that.
