Seeing one of the most beloved BMW models getting hurt like this is never easy, especially since it wasn’t entirely the driver’s fault.

As a matter of fact, you don’t need to scroll down too much in the YouTube comments section in order to find people blaming the driver of that white Cayman for what happened to the M3.

Surely it can’t be as simple as that though, can it? The Porsche does indeed look to be moving a bit too slow for that particular section of the track (without leaving any space for overtaking), but couldn’t the driver of the BMW have chosen not to take any action and just gotten on the brakes sooner after spotting the car in front?

Once the car clipped the grass and the driver applied the brakes, it was pretty much over as the M3 skidded into the barrier on the other side of the track, losing its front spoiler and damaging its left-front wheel, bonnet and who knows what else.

It would have helped if the footage started a few seconds earlier (and from another angle) so that we could see what the driver of the M3 saw as he was approaching the slow-moving Cayman.

It almost looks like he got on the curb thinking he’s going to pass the slower car that way, unaware that he was going to end up on the grass. What do you think?
