The brand new Acura NSX is expected to receive a number of variants, potentially including both Type R and Roadster models.

While the NSX is underpinned by a bespoke platform, the car’s chief engineering, Jason Bilotta, revealed to Car Advice that the architecture has been designed to suit more than one version.

“You know, I have designed this platform to be able to accommodate different variants on it and use it as a [scalable] platform.

“So, while we can’t speculate about what will happen in the future, there is the ability to make some variants or derivatives, so hopefully – depending on the market response – we will be able to provide that,” Bilotta confirmed.

Logically, the most likely variants would be an even more performance-oriented one, potentially adorned with the fabled Type R badge, as well as a drop-top.

Of course, these models will only be launched if demand is strong enough for the standard car and if Acura can drum up enough interest in other versions.
