304 HP Ford Focus FR200 Could Be Yours For $78,900

This might look like your ordinary 2000s tuner build gone wrong, but it’s actually a genuine Ford development project.

There’s no easy way of putting it, so we’re just going to be blunt: this 2000 Ford Focus is a ricer’s dream. As you can see, it’s over encumbered with hideous spoilers, bumpers and side skirts, while the “red, white, and blue” flames are this style’s final nail in the coffin.

But here’s the catch, Ford Motor Company itself designed and tested the Focus with Ford racing at the helm, while McLaren Vehicle Development Center played an integral role in developing the model’s engine and building it. Hold your horses, it’s not the U.K-based automaker we’re talking about, but another company.

Their mission? To build the ultimate combination of high horsepower and superior handling in a small, front-wheel-drive car. Just three FR200 model rolled off the line, each one developing 304 hp thanks to their modified 2.0-liter Zetec engine, and costing over $225,000.

“We are excited to be involved with Ford Racing Technology on the Focus FR200, which is a phenomenal vehicle,” said Wiley R. McCoy, president and chief operating officer of McLaren Performance Technologies at the car’s launch.

As you’d expect the car has a comprehensive list of mods, and the dealer handling its sale, GR Autogallery, is happy to walk you through each and every one. Sounds stellar, doesn’t it? Albeit the car’s price might put you off, since it costs $78,900.

Sure, there are a ton of cars you could get for that kind of cash, including two brand new Focus RS’, but this one is a bespoke, custom made, one-of-a-kind, questionable-looking car. Is it worth it?
