If rude and inconsiderate drivers could be both named and shamed at the same time, this survey might definitely get the job done.
According to Privilege Car Insurance, the city of Bristol tops the chart, followed by Liverpool and Norwich. Furthermore, Bristol was also rated worst for motorists using mobile phones, speeding, not indicating and swerving in traffic – actions that can have serious consequences.
Other notable offenses include pulling out in front of other drivers (a classic), taking up too much space on the road, using the horn unnecessarily and even splashing pedestrians standing near puddles of water.
Now, despite being ranked “the rudest”, Bristol motorists were also the most prepared to own up to their bad driving habits as 61% admitted poor road manners compared to just 56% of Londoners and Liverpool motorists, as reported by Auto Express.
As expected, mobile phone use remained the top rated offense UK-wide, followed by failing to indicate and speeding. Women over 55 were ranked as “rudest” in several areas such as being in the wrong lane and driving too slowly, while men were found to cut corners, undertake and drive down the middle of the road.
“Inconsiderate or careless driving are two of the main causes of accidents on our roads,” said Charlotte Fielding, head of Privilege Car Insurance. “Hopefully, the findings of this report will help remind people their actions on the road do have an impact on other drivers – it’s better to get there safely than risk injuring yourself or someone else. So take a deep breath, leave a safe distance between your vehicle and the car in front and drive at a safe speed.”
