The world’s second largest auto market, USA, could see the addition of new vans and pickup trucks, as Volkswagen’s Commercial Vehicles is looking into expansion.

An official decision has yet to be taken, but according to Reuters, the 308,500 units sold last month, an 8.2 percent increase over the same month of 2015, has made the division consider an US market entry, where the Amarok, Caddy, Crafter and Transporter would go up against locally-made vehicles.

Orders are at a level that some would wish for. We are probably the brand with the best sales and order figures (within the VW Group)“, said VW Commercial Vehicles’ chief executive, Eckhard Scholz. The official answered that the US “are still a highly interesting market” and added that “A lot of things come to mind, but at the moment I have nothing concrete to say” when asked about the prospects of US expansion, during the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicle Show, in Hannover.

However, this possible expansion will have to be seriously weighed, as the Volkswagen Group doesn’t have certification to sell any diesel engines in the United States, after the cheating emissions scandal, and this could be a big pushback for someone looking into a commercial vehicle, rather than someone looking for a family car.
