BMW is the latest in a long string of automakers to target Tesla Motors and their successful electric vehicles with the introduction of several new zero-emissions cars over the next few years.

Set to sit between the Model 3 and Model S, an electric version of the 3-Series is poised to hit the market between 2019 and 2021, according to AutomobileMag, with a new suspension and two versions – one with RWD and 315 HP and the other with AWD and 402 HP, targeting a range of 250-315 miles (402-507 km).

A Model S rival, in the form of a five-door coupe slotting between the 5-Series and 7-Series in terms of size, is also on the cards. This vehicle is believed adopt the i5 or i6 moniker and come with a choice of three different electric motors and a 70/80/90 kWh battery, where the latter would provide up to 375 miles (604 km) of zero-emission range.

There’s a new X3 eDrive in the pipeline as well, which is said to arrive in late 2018 as a competitor for the Tesla Model X, Audi E-Tron and Faraday Future’s similar vehicle. Rumor has it that its 302 horsepower electric motor will be fed by a 70 kWh battery that will be built in China.

BMW’s “i” range is bound to be updated too, with a facelifted version of the i3 expected next year and joined eventually by a more potent iPerformance variant. As for the i8, this is expected to gain a new generation in 2022, when it will allegedly drop its internal combustion engine in favor of three electric motors that are expected to produce more than 670 HP.
