Outfitted with a high-revving 5.2-liter V8 engine delivering 526 hp, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT350R are two of the most exciting performance cars on the market.

Nevertheless, Hennessey Performance thought it could make the models even better and have done just that with their 800 hp upgrade.

Tested here for the first time on the dyno and the drag strip, Hennessey’s upgrades are headlined by the installation of a 2.9-liter supercharger. Supporting modifications include upgraded fuel injectors and an improved fuel system and on the company’s dyno, the car recently put down an impressive 733 hp at the wheels and 515 lb-ft of torque.

To put those figures into perspective, a standard GT350 returned 473 hp and 400 lb-ft to the rear wheels.

Although the flat-plane crank V8 is no longer naturally-aspirated, it continues to rev all the way to 8,250 rpm despite Hennessey’s supercharger and sounds just as good as the standard car. There’s no screaming supercharger whine and just the sound of that wicked V8 and roaring exhaust system. Perfect.
