Porsche Says It Could Create More Mission E Based EVs

Porsche’s Mission E concept looks likely to spawn a family of all-electric models.

Unveiled at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the Mission E has already been confirmed for production and will arrive in the coming years and according to Michael Steiner, Porsche member of the executive board for research and development, other electric models are probable.

“The conceptual design of the Mission E once again gives us technically the potential to do more with this platform, and also we think about if the battery electric business will be fast growing and we think that the whole business will change, most probably pretty fast at some trigger point. That should be not the only battery electric car.

“In general we think what could be a second or third step, and also in terms of the platform of Mission E there is no reason why this has to be only a one body-style platform,” Steiner confirmed

When quizzed about a potential electric SUV, Steiner said that “with some modifications” to the Mission E and its platform, such a model could be built. He then suggested that if an SUV is created, it could share technologies with Audi’s upcoming Q6 EV.

Before the carmaker decides on producing such a model, it says it will have to wait until the Mission E hits the market to see how it sells and how the premium electric vehicle market develops.
