It was 2015 when Volkswagen dropped the Eos from their UK lineup and now the automaker has done the same thing with the Golf Cabriolet as well.

According to Autocar, which is quoting a spokesperson within the company, an exact reason for why the drop-top version of the compact car, which was updated for the 2016MY, was discontinued hasn’t been provided, but it could be part of the cost-cutting measures that follow the cheating emissions scandal.

Moreover, the convertible segment is one of the less profitable across the industry, and the spokesman did confirm that while the Golf Cabriolet is no longer put together for Europe’s right-hand drive market, it will make room for the new Tiguan, whose production will increase at the brand’s plant in Wolfsburg.

Last year, Volkswagen managed to shift just 1,621 units of the Golf Cabriolet in the United Kingdom, and by comparison, the automaker had delivered almost 44,000 examples of the compact hatch until August 2016, which makes the latter the fourth most registered car in the country.

Buyers looking for a convertible Volkswagen in the UK will now have to settle to the Beetle Cabriolet, which was delivered to 1,284 clients last year.
