The performance-oriented, range-topping version of the Seat Ateca has been spotted on public roads in what is virtually production-ready guise.

Seat’s plan to offer a hot Cupra derivative of the Ateca SUV is not exactly a well-kept secret, with several reports and even a sighting during the official press launch of the model.

The upcoming Ateca Cupra is expected to use a 300hp version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine found in the Leon Cupra, which is expected to enable the Spanish SUV to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in around 6 seconds.

The car you see in the photos is finished in a rather tasty matte grey finish, with the body sitting lower to the ground and featuring the usual Cupra treatment, meaning different front and rear bumpers with bigger air intakes, a rear diffuser and quad exhausts. A set of bigger wheels with stickier tires hide behind them a set of bigger Brembo brakes.

The cabin is also expected to feature sportier detailing, including bucket seats, red stitching and a steering wheel with a more sculpted rim.

Since the car has been spotted completely undisguised, Seat must be gearing up for the official launch of their hot SUV in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
