Jeep has announced two new 2017 Renegade models set for their LA Auto Show debut, one of which was inspired by the desert’s extreme conditions.

That one in particular is the $28,140 Renegade Deserthawk limited-edition model which will hit showrooms in January. The 2017 Renegade Altitude on the other hand will bring its unique ‘blacked-out’ exterior into showrooms as early as this month, with prices starting at $22,390.

“These two new Jeep Renegade models help to extend our popular small SUV’s continued global success since its launch last year, and to provide customers with the choice of two distinctive and unique special editions,” said Mike Manley, head of Jeep Brand FCA Global. “The Jeep Renegade Deserthawk takes the best-in-class capability of the Renegade Trailhawk and combines it with a unique look and additional features that include rock rails and a towing package – all inspired by the desert’s extreme conditions.”

As for the Altitude, Manley stated that it offers customers “an edgy and aggressive appearance, building on the popularity of the other Altitude models across the Jeep lineup.”

Jeep Renegade Deserthawk

The Deserthawk is basically a Trailhawk boasting exclusive features and functionality inspired by the desert. It can be purchased in Alpine White, Anvil, Black or this Deserthawk-exclusive Mojave Sand, and features fully painted 17″ black wheels, exclusive hood and rear body panel decals, rock rails and Trailer Tow Group. Inside, it’s got black leather seats, Light Frost stitching and accents, all-weather floor mats and cargo trey mat.

On the road, the Renegade Deserthawk is said to deliver best-in-class Trail Rated 4×4 capability with standard Jeep Active Drive Low with 20:1 crawl ratio. Other features include the Selec-Terrain system with an exclusive Rock mode, 8.7″ of ground clearance, skid plates, signature red front and rear tow hooks, up to 8.1″ of wheel articulation, Hill-descent control, up to 19″ of water fording and up to 2,000 lb towing capacity.

Powering the Deserthawk is a 2.4-liter Tigershark engine with MultiAir2, paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. A ParkView rear backup camera and a 7″ display are also available.

Jeep Renegade Altitude

The 2017 Renegade Altitude is available in all exterior colors and comes with 18″ gloss black wheels and gloss black accents to go with the blacked-out exterior. Inside, the dark theme continues with the black interior, black premium cloth seats and high gloss black finishes. There are also Metal Diamond accents found on “key touch points” such as the shifter knob and door handles.

On the road, since the Altitude is based on the Latitude model, it’s available with either a 2.4-liter Tigershark unit and a nine-speed auto, or a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine with a six-speed manual. Among its standard features are the ParkSense rear backup camera and the Keyless Go system.
